Gaya Gupta

is an NYC-based journalist with a background in breaking news and data reporting.

I love stories big and small, and I've reported on issues across the world, around the country, and right here in New York.

Right now, I report for The New York Times as part of its 2023-2024 fellowship program. My work focuses on the war in Gaza, and I've also covered the Russia-Ukraine war, natural disasters and the Nobel Prizes.

I just graduated from Brown University with a degree in computer science and English. I was a senior editor at my college paper, The Brown Daily Herald, where I founded a data journalism team dedicated to creating interactive and immersive ways to tell stories.

I also covered transportation on The Washington Post’s metro desk and have reported about opioids and COVID for newspapers in Virginia and Rhode Island.

Outside of writing and coding, I have a tendency to neglect my basil plants and go on long drives, especially up and down the east coast.
